Living The Gospel
“It is by your love for one another, that everyone will recognize you as my disciples.” Today’s Gospel – John 13:35
Whenever I hear this sentence from the Gospel I think of the cross-stitch wall hanging we had in our kitchen for many years. It read “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” I did not realize that it came from the Aesop Fable, The Mouse and the Lion, in which the mouse gnaws a hole in a net in which a lion is trapped and by doing so allows the lion to escape. Such a small gesture by such a small creature but what an outcome and powerful lesson to be learned. No matter who we are, how insignificant our role might be, we are all capable of doing something kind…I believe that these little acts of kindness in our daily life are the ‘love that we show one another.’
May we continue to pray for each other and our community for openness and courage to respond in kindness and love to each other and to all in need. Don’t wait to be asked…be willing to be ‘stretched’ this week and realize that no act of love is wasted.
We are thankful for the example that Fr. Corey gave us in his many acts of love while he was with us. He certainly will be missed!
