The Holiness of Ordinary!
Today’s gospel is a continuation of last week’s account of Jesus preaching in His hometown, Nazareth. However, things turn ugly and Mark tells us about it. The people who heard Him and were in awe, now turn on Him. In fact, they drive Him out of the temple to do him harm. What happened?
It suddenly occurred to them, that Christ was too ordinary to be the Messiah! He was from Nazareth, they knew His parents, Mary and Joseph, all way too ordinary to be the Messiah. He must be a fraud!
On the contrary, Jesus is the epitome of holiness and yes, ordinary is where holiness lives and breathes. In creation, in relationships, in work, in family, In LOVE!
LOVE should not be some extraordinary thing! Full of God’s grace we should love all the time and everyone we meet. Being in creation, breathing, seeing stars, at play, and in working, we should love.
Let’s work hard to truly love (agape), be ordinary in our love at all times, everywhere. Only with our relationship with the Father, through Christ will this become more of a reality for us.
May God bless us and may Mary keep us always in His love!
