Another view of Jesus’ ministry is given to us in today’s Gospel; his ministry of Preaching. We find him in the Synagogue reading from the prophet Isaiah and then explaining it to the attendees. “In your hearing, this prophesy is fulfilled.” This is a very important teaching for us!
Most of us have listened to preaching in church on Sunday for many years. Some good and some less good. However, how many of us, or how often do any of us, consider that in our hearing of fulfilled scripture, we too, are supposed to preach in our lives, what we have heard.
We cannot expect others only to preach the truths we have heard in scripture, in church traditions, or those revealed in our prayer lives. We’ve heard those truths, like the people in Christ’s synagogue and in our hearing, that must be preached by US!
This can be a scary proposition, but nonetheless, it is a commandment; to take what we have heard preached, internalize it in our lives, and in living that teaching out, proclaim Christ is our King, Savior, and Redeemer and we belong to him and invite those we know to hear and to preach this truth.
God will provide the strength and grace to be good preachers, we just need to accept that and do it!
May God bless us and may Mary keep us always in His love!
