Jesus teaches, no one can serve two masters. You cannot serve God and money, you need to make a choice. When God created man, he gave us the ability to make choices, unlike plants and animals that don’t have that ability and are programmed to run mostly on instinct. Humans can choose between good and evil, moral and immoral, right or wrong, etc. Probably the hardest choice of all is choosing between God and money. What do you love the most? Where is your heart? Will you spend your lifetime on earth trying to get rich so that you can enjoy as many pleasures as you possibly can, even though you know life on earth is relatively short. Or, will you make the wiser choice to follow Jesus’ teachings which promise everlasting life in heaven? Are you going to do it your way or are you going to do it God’s way? Choices, choices.

This guy is walking a trail alongside a high rocky cliff when he slips and falls off the cliff. But he manages to grab a root sticking out of the face of the cliff on his way down. Now he is dangling off the side of the cliff and hanging on for dear life. His arms are getting tired and he knows he can’t hang on much longer. Then he hears a voice calling to him “Dave, Dave.”
Dave is surprised, so he says “is there someone up there ??”
“Yes” the voice replies, “there is.”
“Help me” says Dave, “I can’t hold on much longer.”
“I know you can’t” says the voice, “that’s why I am here to save you.”
“Do I know you ?” asks Dave.
“Of course you do” says the voice, “It’s me, God.”
“God ?? “ asks Dave.
“Yes, I’ve come to save you” says God. “Oh yes, yes God, please throw down a rope that I can grab and you can pull me up.”
“But I’m God, I don’t need a rope to save you. You believe Me don’t you ?”
“Yes, of course I do “ answers Dave. “Good,” says God “now let go of that root you’re hanging on to, then I will catch you and bring you up here.”
“Uhmm “ says Dave.
“You do believe in Me, don’t you?” God asks.
“Uhh, Yes” says Dave.
“Then just let go of the root and I’ll catch you” says God.
Dave thinks about this for a few seconds, then he yells out “IS THERE ANYONE ELSE UP THERE???”
It is so hard to let go and let God. We have to learn to let go of treasures that we are attached to on earth before God can help us get to heaven. You do have a free will, but God wants you to make the right choice here. And He wants you to do it His way. And why should that be so difficult to do?? After all He did create heaven and earth, and everything in it, as well as the entire universe and its vastness. Surely He knows what is best for you and me. Make the right choice to put all your trust in God. Only in God is my soul at rest; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be disturbed at all. Psalm 62:2-3
