In this weekendโ€™s Gospel, we see our Lord Jesus cleansing the temple. We see him getting rid of the things in the temple that distract the people from God. The money changers, the animals, and the birds all were supposed to lead the People of Israel in their worship of God, but they became such a distraction that they prevented the People from recognizing God in their midst in the person of Jesus. Lent is an opportunity to cleanse ourselves of the things that distract us from God in our lives. We give things up in Lent that keep us from putting God first in our lives and in our hearts. We try to spend more time with the Lord in prayer during the Lenten season. One good practice for us is to experience Godโ€™s mercy and forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Fr. Thomas will be at St. Stephenโ€™s Church on Monday, March 25 from 4:00-7:00 PM waiting to celebrate Godโ€™s mercy and forgiveness with anyone who seeks it. Let us ask the Lord to cleanse ourselves of all things that distract us from Him. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!
