Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ or Corpus Christi in Latin. How wonderful it is for us to celebrate this feast as we are in the midst of a Eucharistic Revival in our country. The Eucharist, according to the Second Vatican Council, โis the source and summit of all Catholic Life.โ The Eucharist is at the heart of the Church. As we receive the Eucharist, we receive the actual Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. The Eucharist is not a symbol, but the actual presence of Jesus Christ. What a great gift this is to all of us. We actually receive the Real Presence of Jesus Christ every time we receive the Eucharist. I think that many of us do not actually stop and think about this great gift that we receive. Our God actually comes into our hearts every time we receive Holy Communion. Let us take some time this week to reflect upon this great gift that God gives us!
This Sunday we will resume the sharing of the cup of the Precious Blood of Jesus in Communion. While Both the Host and Precious Blood contain the full Real Presence of our Lord Jesus, the reception of the precious blood is a fuller symbol of the reality that we receive. We now have the OPTION of receiving the Host and sharing the Precious Blood of our Lord Jesus. What a great gift this is for us.
I mentioned that our country is in the midst of the Eucharistic Revival. The Bishops of New York State are inviting all of us to participate in a Eucharistic Pilgrimage to Auriesville, NY on October 21-22. I am looking into securing a bus for October 21 to take anyone for this special day. This day will include talks on the Eucharist, a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Dolan and a Eucharistic Procession. Make your plans now to attend this special day. To reserve a spot on this bus, please call the Parish Office.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!
