Pastorโ€™s Column – February 26, 2023

As we begin our Lenten journey on this first Sunday of Lent, our Scriptures call us to pause and reflect upon the effects of sin in our lives. Our First Reading from the Book of Genesis, tells us of the origins of sin in the world. Sin is the rejection of Godโ€™s plan for us. Satan, the great tempter, tells Eve that โ€œif she eats of the fruit, she and Adam will be like gods themselvesโ€. Adam and Eve eat of the fruit and reject Godโ€™s plan for them. In the Gospel, Jesus is victorious over Satan in the desert. Jesus is a model for us and shows us how to follow Godโ€™s plan in our lives. We all are called to begin this Lenten Season by acknowledging the ways that we reject Godโ€™s plan and love for us in our lives. May we take some time each day during our Lenten journey to speak to our Lord Jesus in prayer and to allow His love to become more present in our lives.

This Friday evening we will have Stations of the Cross at St. Stephenโ€™s church which will be preceded by a simple soup supper. This is an excellent opportunity for us to gather as a community of faith and to reflect upon Godโ€™s immense love shown to us in His passion and cross. We will have our soup supper at 5:30 and stations of the cross will take place at 6:00.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!
