This Sunday, June 12th, we welcome Rev. Innocent Onyenagubo, as our Celebrant and he will speak on behalf of Ahiara Diocese Ahiara Catholic Diocese is one of the most rural dioceses in Nigeria. It is one of the Southern poorest areas of the nation. There the government does not help to provide the people with the basic necessities of life and the people have nobody to speak for them except the Bishop/priests and the Church. In this area, there is no food provision, no good water and no electricity. No hospitals and no health care provider of any kind. Many people die in this community every day due to preventable and curable diseases. The goal for this year’s Mission Appeal is to help fight hunger and thirst in Ahiara-Mbaise, Nigeria.

Ahiara Diocese: Ahiara Catholic Diocese is one of the most rural dioceses in Nigeria. It is one of the Southern poorest areas of the nation. Nigeria: The Super – Power of Africa with a population close to three million people is today one of the most dangerous and most corrupt nations of the world.

Nigeria as a Nation: There is a great divide in Nigeria between the North and the South. The Northern- Muslims have controlled the political power of the nation all the years of her independence. The Southern- Christian Communities have suffered greatly from the Islamic leadership of Nigeria since 1960.

Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen are some of the blood-thirsty Islamic extremists in Nigeria. They go about killing innocent Christians. This situation brings poverty, hunger and bitterness in the life of every Christian faithful and their families. People are afraid to get out of their rooms. As a result of these, there is a high rate of insecurity every moment in the country. The political leaders are doing nothing to stop the evil in the land.

Boko Haram: is a movement that sees Western Education and women’s education as evil and forbidden.

Fulani Herdsmen: are Islamic terrorists who came into Nigeria from Islamic nations claiming that Nigeria is their land and have come to possess it. This group goes about killing farmers and other workers in their farmlands and workplaces.

The Unknown Gunmen: This group of terrorists go about kidnapping and beheading innocent Nigerians after calling for ransom. This situation is worsened by COVID-19 Pandemic, which the government does nothing about.

New York State: The communities in the Central New York area are helping to support the Christian faithful of Ahiara-Mbaise with cash and kind donations to improve their living conditions. The goal for this year’s Mission Appeal is to help fight hunger and thirst in Ahiara-Mbaise, Nigeria. Fr. Innocent Ejike Onyenagubo (the priest-chaplain at Upstate University Hospital and Hutchings Mental Health Center, Syracuse, NY), is the Ahiara Diocesan representative in Central NY area.
