Pastorโs Column – November 27, 2022
This weekend is the First Sunday of Advent and the beginning of the Church year. Our Responsorial Psalm calls us to โgo rejoicing to the house of the Lord.โ The Gospel reminds us that we do not know the hour or the day when the Lord is coming. How many of us can truly pray the Responsorial Psalm this weekend? How many of us truly go rejoicing to the house of the Lord? We are called to pause and to reflect upon our attitude toward attending Mass on the weekend. Do we go rejoicing or do we do it out of habit? Do we truly realize that as we gather for Eucharist, our Lord Jesus is truly present in our midst? Our Sunday celebrations are truly a cause for joy and excitement as we listen to our God speak to us through Sacred Scripture, greet Him present in His People and receive His Body and Blood in the Eucharist. As we prepare for the Feast of Christmas, let us pause to reflect upon this great presence.
One of the best ways for us to prepare for Christmas is to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We will have an Advent Penance Service on Monday, December 12, at 6:30 PM. Many local priests will be here to celebrate Godโs mercy and forgiveness with our parish family. Make your plans now to prepare for Christmas by meeting Jesus in the healing sacrament of his mercy.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!
